Hamburger steak smothered in brown gravy with mushrooms and onions


2 lbs Floor Chuck

1 Yellow Onion thinly sliced

16 oz mushrooms I used a mix of cremini and shitaki

2 cups beef broth – divided. I exploit canned fat-free low sodium

2 tbsp all-purpose flour

6 tbsp butter

4 sliced scallions white and inexperienced sections


salt and pepper to style


Divide meat into 6 equal-sized patties. Salt and pepper all sides liberally.

Soften 2 tablespoons of butter in the skillet. Add the onion and mushrooms and prepare dinner over medium warmth till browned. Take away from the pan and put aside

Soften 2 further tablespoons of butter in the skillet and sear the meat patties 3 minutes on all sides or till beef reaches 120°F. Take away from the skillet.

Add the final 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Add 1½ cups beef broth. Convey to a simmer and whisk in the flour. Prepare dinner till thickened. If the gravy will get too thick, add the remaining 1/2 cup of broth.

Add beef patties, mushrooms and onions again to the new gravy. Salt and pepper to style. Prepare dinner till desired doneness.

Serve and garnish with sliced scallions.
